Places for the technical visits are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations will be made through the ELAEE website at a link to be announced shortly. Visit to the National System Operator (ONS) of the Brazilian Interconnected System

Limited places: 30 persons | Period: morning of July 31st


The Brazilian Power System Operator (ONS) is the entity responsible for coordinating and controlling the operation of generation and transmission facilities for the whole Nacional Interconnected System (SIN) and for planning the operation of isolated power systems in the country. To make it possible, ONS has for Regional Operation Centers, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Recife and Florianópolis, plus a Nacional Operation Center in Brasília.


The technical visit to the Southeast Regional Center, in Rio de Janeiro, is made up of two parts. In the first one, there is a presentation to introduce visitors to the role of ONS and the operation of the Nacional Interconnected System, as well as the Brazilian power system and its different institutions. On the second part, there’s is a visit to the Observatory with a full view of the control room, where participants receive complete information about the work dynamic and details of the control panel.

Visit to Porto do Açu - Discover the Future of Energy with the Hydrogen Hub Project

As a complementary activity to the 9th Latin American Energy Economics Meeting, we are pleased to offer a unique opportunity: a visit to the innovative Porto do Açu. Strategically located, Porto do Açu is a landmark in sustainable development and energy economy in Latin America.

Port of Açu is the largest deep-water and private industrial port complex in Latin America. Located in the North of Rio de Janeiro State, Açu is a young port focused on sustainable growth. In operation since 2014, it already has 22 companies installed and 11 private terminals.

The port’s future industrialization includes expanding mining and oil & gas activities, advancing with renewable energy projects and accelerating the low carbon industrialization. It already has the 3rd largest iron ore private terminal in Brazil, is responsible for 30% of Brazil’s oil exports, is building the largest thermoelectric power park in Latin America and houses the largest offshore support base in the world.

The visit includes a full tour of the Port of Açu, which already has companies in operation, an LNG terminal and a thermal power plant. The visit includes technical presentations on the future Hydrogen Hub Project (still in the planning stage).

Details on round-trip transportation will be provided closer to the date. The visit to Porto Açu will leave early on Wednesday, as the port is about four hours away from the city of Rio.

Visit to the Urca biomethane plant (Gás Verde) at the Seropédica landfill in Rio de Janeiro

Gás Verde - a company belonging to the Grupo Urca holding - offers solutions for a sustainable world by supporting waste treatment and the effective transition of companies to a cleaner energy matrix. Gás Verde produces and sells biomethane from landfill biogas and, as of 2024, will also produce green CO2. Gás Verde issues decarbonization credits (CBIO) in accordance with the specifications of the Federal Regulatory Agency (ANP) and a certificate of traceability for the biomethane purchased (BIORec).

The visit will be to the biomethane plant at the Seropédia landfill in Rio de Janeiro, which treats biogas and sells it via compressed natural gas trucks.
