This study examines how fuel price fluctuations impact food prices in Brazil, a critical issue as food spending heavily burdens low-income households. We employ a Vector Error Correction Model and time-varying approaches to analyze monthly data from 2004 to 2023. Our initial findings suggest a critical connection: changes in fuel prices have a significant impact on food prices in Brazil, both immediately and over the long term. This suggests that volatility in fuel prices can create instability in food prices, potentially jeopardizing household budgets and food security, particularly for those already struggling financially. Ultimately, this study reinforces the importance of continuous monitoring and analysis of fuel and food price trends to facilitate timely and effective policy measures. By doing so, policymakers can not only address immediate inflationary concerns but also promote long-term economic stability
