SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC AND HEALTH PROFILE OF SEX PROFESSIONALS
ABSTRACT
Objective: to analyze the sociodemographic and health aspects of sex workers in the city of Guanambi-BA. Methods: this is a descriptive, census-based, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, carried out between July and August 2017, with 50 female professionals. Results: most of them are aged between 18 and 21 years old, non-black ethnicity, with single marital status, with complete or incomplete elementary education (schooling between three and eight years old) and Catholic religion. Lack of employment is the main reason for joining the profession and most want to change their profession. Most have already had some type of sexually transmitted infection and sought treatment in primary care. Considerations: sex workers are vulnerable and stereotyped professionals regarding professional practice as well as the reasons that led to professional practice. In this sense, it is necessary to expand the discussions in order to foster public health strategies and policies aimed at protecting health and ensuring the maintenance of social rights and duties.
