Home birth planned from the perspective of a group of professionals from a teaching hospital
Abstract
Objective: Understand the opinion of health professionals about planned home birth. Method: exploratory and qualitative study, conducted with 15 health professionals, including nurses, obstetricians and neonatologists from a teaching hospital. Data were collected through semi- structured interviews, recorded and transcribed audio. The Bardin Analysis was used for data analysis. Results: the reports gave rise to two thematic categories: a) Home birth: a possibility, with criteria and b) Home birth: a mix of concepts, opinions and interpretations. Conclusion: although health professionals recognize the main eligibility criteria for planned home birth, it is clear that there is no clarity about the work process in home birth assistance, which generates opinions and impressions without adequate scientific basis.
