  • Introduction: Malignant skin neoplasms remain a critical issue in the state of Pará, because of its geographical location near the equatorial line, the population is exposed to higher levels of solar radiation thereby increasing the risk of these tumors. Despite public educational campaigns towards more frequent sunscreen use, morbidity and mortality rates are still concerning. Therefore, it’s essential to keep track of reported cases in order to develop strategies for early interventions with the intent of reducing mortality and morbidity rates. Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile of hospital morbidity and mortality due to malignant skin neoplasms (ICD-10: C44) in Pará from 2020-2025, to inform the development of effective public health strategies. Methods: This is an epidemiological study based in an observational and quantitative structure. The data were obtained through government platform DATASUS, using the Hospital Morbidity System of SUS (SIH/SUS) and the Mortality Information System of SUS (SIM/SUS), all data refer to the state of Pará between the years of 2020-2025. The study analyzed reported cases and deaths that happened in the state of Pará while taking in account their sex, age and race. Results: The data analysis recorded 350 hospitalizations by malignant skin neoplasms during the analyzed period, with 37 deaths and a mortality rate of 10,57%. Among the municipalities, the highest concentration was observed in Belém (154 hospitalizations and 28 deaths, with a mortality rate of 18,18%). Furthermore, the hospitalizations were predominant in males (188 cases and 21 deaths), and in patients with 60-69 years (74 cases and 11 deaths), presenting the highest mortality rate (14,86%). Moreover, a racial analysis comproves that mixed race people (pardo) were the most affected (260 cases and 26 deaths). Conclusion: The data study reveals that between 2020-2025, among the municipalities, the capital Belém held the highest statistics of the hospitalizations and deaths due to malignant skin neoplasms as a result of it acting as the main oncological referral center in the state, contributing to increased hospital lethality. The higher mortality rate in male patients may be attributed to lower adherence to preventive measures and low initiative towards seeking medical assistance, besides among the 60–69 age group, there may be an association with comorbidities, reduced immunity, and greater difficulty in adhering to treatment. Furthermore, it cannot be ruled out that the high hospital morbidity among mixed-race individuals reflects the demographic composition of the state and the socioeconomic factors potentially affecting access to diagnosis and its continuity. In addition, the high hospitality rate in Belém is a major problem to the city’s health system, because the hospitals usually treat most of the oncological cases of the whole state; they are always over-encumbered, diminishing the quality of the healthcare provided to belém’s inhabitants. In conclusion, it is essential to strengthen the oncology care network in the interior regions of the state, reducing the late transfer of severe cases to the capital.
