Teaching Vocabulary Using WordScapes in a Student-Centered Approach
The presenters will demonstrate a communicative way of teaching vocabulary using the Wordscapes material provided by the U.S. Consulate-General in Recife. The Wordscapes material contains illustrated posters to be used both to introduce and to practice new words, creating an active and motivating atmosphere in the classroom. Three activities will be presented: the “Object Search Activity” to introduce a new word, the “Word First Activity” to reinforce learning, and the “Chain Story” for additional oral practice. Gifts will be given at the end of the presentation for the winners of a BINGO activity.
