Welcome to Brazil, GCL!!! This is the 10th anniversary of our Alumni Association!To celebrate it well, Porto Alegre - RS - Brazil is waiting for you with outstanding speakers and activities!
Wednesday, Nov 6th: an optional program in Brasília for the ones who want to know Brazil’s capital, where many GCLs live and work! We’ll visit the House of Representatives and the Senate, and also (to be confirmed) have meetings with:
- Vice-President Hamilton Mourão (tbc);
- Minister of Justice Sergio Moro (confirmed);
- House of Representatives’ President Rodrigo Maia;
- Senate’s President Davi Alcolumbre;
We’ll end our day at the beautiful Pontão do Lago Sul, by Paranoá Lake. Our hosts in Brasília will be Renan Pretto (GCL’16) and Antonia Martins (GCL’16).
Thursday, Nov 7th: the official program in Porto Alegre! We’ll have a welcome inside the panoramic restaurant built over the Guaíba Lake (called Guaíba River or Rio Guaíba by gaúchos), with the best view of the city. Our guests and panelists will be the city councillor Felipe Camozzato (GCL’16), the state deputy Fabio Ostermann (GCL’09) and the federal deputy Marcel van Hattem (GCL’09).
Friday, November 8th: the whole day at Ling Institute - a private culture center designed by the awarded Brazilian architect I say Weinfeld. The Ling Institute, which focus its activities on transforming the country through education, is presided over and directed by the Ling family, one of the most important donors to the GCL programs since its first years. We’ll start the day with an individual presentation of each participant led by Felipe Dib (GCL’11), and we’ll have our GCL-Alumni Board led by our president Laura Paonessa (GCL’16). We’ll also have one of the most reputable political consultants of Brazil, Murilo Aragão, who’s a professor at the University of Columbia. He’ll talk about the Brazilian political scenario in this time of change here and everywhere!
Then we’ll have a panel with our GCL journalists Felipe Seligman (GCL’11, tbc), Cauê Fonseca (GCL’11), Elisa Alves (GCL’12, tbc), and Paulo Celso (GCL’13). They are all working in mainstream media, respectively in Jota, RBS, Época, BBC and O Globo, and will tell us what is the role of media in this era of digital ????revolution!
Ready for lunch? A traditional *Churrasco Gaúcho* will be served, followed by a guided tour to discover Porto Alegre and its main points of interest!
At night we’ll go to the movies! The documentary Poverty, Inc. will be screened at the comfy and state-of-the-art cinema of Ling Institute. The director of the movie, Mr Michael Miller from Acton Institute, will be with us! After the movie he’ll be in our panel about how to foster entrepreneurship, together with William Ling and Ricardo Ernst.
Saturday, November 9th: big guys are coming!!! At 9:00 we’ll have the most successful coach in the world history! Bernardinho, volleyball coach of both and Brazilian teams who have won the in the Olympic games. He’ll talk about motivation, discipline and leadership to win in this unique opportunity to meet such an achiever! Fabio Padilla (GCL’09) will lead the Q&A session.
Time has come to debate innovation and education in the public sector! Germano Guimarães (GCL’09), Antonia Martins (GCL’16), José Miguel (GCL’09) and Felipe Dib (GCL’11) will discuss with us where we are and the challenges we have to overcome in Brazil and Latin America!
In the afternoon we’ll head to Gramado, the second most visited destination in Brazil! The city will be already prepared with the lights and decoration for Christmas!
Sunset with entrepreneurship! Felipe Peccin will tell us how Gramado became this touristic power, together with Júlio de Souza (GCL'16) and mediated by Renan Artur Pretto (GCL'16).
Then... Let’s talk about the Amazon! How can we preserve it without stopping its economic development? The Brazilian Minister of Environment Ricardo Salles will be with us!
At night we’ll go for a sightseeing around the streets of Gramado. We’ll watch the Christmas Show and celebrate our meeting with a look into the future! Cheers, GCL!!!
