The biannual event “Work Meeting of Specialists in Aquatic Mammals of South America”, and “SOLAMAC Congress (Latin American Society of Specialists in Aquatic Mammals)” constitutes the most important Latin American scientific forum on the research and conservation of these animals, considered as vital for the balance of the trophic chain in the environments in which they occur. The event originated in the 1980s, with the beginning of studies on aquatic mammals in Latin America and the concern with the conservation of species and the environments in which they live. The last RT took place in Lima, Peru, at the beginning of November 2018. In the final plenary session of SOLAMAC, the candidacy of the Northeast of Brazil, specifically Bahia, for the next conference was elected.
