O Latin American Workshop in Law and Economics (www.lawle.org) surgiu a partir da constatação de que há uma necessidade premente de se fomentar o desenvolvimento na América Latina da área Análise Econômica do Direito (Law and Economics), de forma a contribuir para a construção de instituições mais eficientes na região. Mais especificamente, diagnosticou-se a necessidade de maior integração entre pesquisadores internacionais de primeira linha na área com os pesquisadores na América Latina, de forma que a pesquisa local se aproxime cada vez mais dos padrões internacionais.
Diante desse diagnóstico, inicialmente três instituições de primeira linha na América Latina se juntaram para organizar o primeiro LAWLE em Santiago do Chile, em novembro de 2014. As instituições originais foram a Universidad Católica de Chile, o ITAM do México e a Universidad de Los Andes da Colômbia. Nesse mesmo ano, a Universidade de Brasília, por meio do EPRG, foi convidada para integrar esse seleto grupo de instituições, que se revezam anualmente na organização do LAWLE. A partir do ano de 2021 a George Mason University se juntou ao grupo de organizadores.
Neste ano de 2023 cabe à Universidade de Brasília a honra de organizar o nono LAWLE em Brasília.
O EPRG é um grupo temático de pesquisa do CNPq criado em maio de 2013 na Universidade de Brasília, com o objetivo de integrar pesquisas e pesquisadores na área interdisciplinar de Política, Economia, Direito, Sociologia e Psicologia.
A principal motivação para a criação do grupo foi o sentimento comum da necessidade de fomentar pesquisas que ajudem a sociedade e a academia brasileira a melhor entender e lidar com o delicado equilíbrio que existe no mundo atual entre as decisões politicas e econômicas dos agentes sociais, considerando as limitações associadas às instituições legais e administrativas, e propor soluções para problemas que surgem do embate entre visões seccionadas das grandes áreas do conhecimento constituídas pela Ciência Política, Economia, Direito, Sociologia e Psicologia.
O EPRG organiza um encontro acadêmico anual. Este ano o encontro será feito em conjunto com o LAWLE.
Devido à limitação do espaço físico, há uma restrição de vagas. Por essa razão, solicitamos aos interessados que se inscrevam o quanto antes. Há um número limitado de inscrições gratuitas. NNo entanto solicitamos, se possível, que contribua com suas doações. Todo o recurso arrecadado com doações será revertido para a organização das atividades do evento.

WELCOME TO LAWLE 2023
The Latin American Workshop in Law and Economics (www.lawle.org) has emerged in response to the pressing need to foster the development of Law and Economics in Latin America. This initiative aims to contribute to the establishment of more efficient institutions in the region by enhancing the field of Economic Analysis of Law and promoting closer integration between leading international researchers and their Latin American counterparts. The objective is to elevate local research standards to align with international benchmarks.
To address this need, three prestigious institutions in Latin America initially joined forces to organize the inaugural LAWLE event in Santiago, Chile, in November 2014. These institutions were the Universidad Católica de Chile, ITAM in Mexico, and the Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia. Subsequently, in the same year, the University of Brasília, through its EPRG (Economics and Politics Research Group), was invited to join this esteemed consortium of institutions. These organizations take turns annually to host the LAWLE, with the addition of George Mason University as an organizing member in 2021.
In 2023, the University of Brasília is honored of organizing the ninth LAWLE, which will be held in Brasília.
The EPRG, established in May 2013 at the University of Brasília and supported by CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), serves as a thematic research group dedicated to integrating scholars and researchers across the interdisciplinary domains of Politics, Economics, Law, Sociology, and Psychology.
The primary impetus behind the group's inception was a shared recognition of the imperative to cultivate research endeavors that aid both Brazilian society and the academic community in comprehending and effectively navigating the intricate equilibrium that exists in today's world between the political and economic decisions of social actors. The group seeks to achieve this by considering the inherent limitations associated with legal and administrative institutions and proposing innovative solutions to challenges arising from juxtaposing fragmented perspectives within the major knowledge domains comprising Political Science, Economics, Law, Sociology, and Psychology.
In addition to its annual academic conference. This year EPRG's annual meeting will be held jointly with LAWLE.
Due to restrictions of physical space, there is only a limited number of registrations available. Therefore, we encourage those interested in attending the event, to register asap. There is a limited number of free registrations; however, we invite you to collaborate with small donations to the event's organization.
