In this workshop, we will look at some models of academic registers written in English to analyze their organizational patterns and their most common linguistic features. The purpose of this analysis is to provide the participants with tools and procedures to examine sample texts to identify trends in the writing of those registers. We will start looking at argumentative essays, focusing on the communicative intents of the writers and the language used to make those intentions clear. The workshop will include hands-on analysis and provide examples that participants can use as models for their own writing.
