The workshop aims to give the student a theoretical overview of the basic concepts involved in periodic calculations. Hands on exercises are planned to ensure that the concepts are used towards practical applications. Emphasis is put on applications relevant to surface science. The course will use the open source codes Quantum ESPRESSO (https://www.Quantum-ESPRESSO.org/) and CP2K (https://www.CP2K.org/).
