He got his master degree in Química Biológica by the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1991) and the PhD degree in Biochemistry by Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1996). He has been mentor of 10 MSc and 7 PhD students in graduate programs at IBqM-UFRJ. He is a peer-reviewer of several renowned science journals, such as: International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - Biomembranes, Acta biochimica e Biophysica Sinica, Comparative Biochem. and Physiology, The Open AIDS Journal, Journal of Molecular Structure, Current Medicinal Chemistry, Journal of Applied Microbiology, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Recent Patents in Antiinfective Drug Discovery, International Journal of Radiation Biology, FEBS Letters, BioMed Research International, PLOS ONE and Journal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry. He has experience in the following research fields: enzymology with enphasis in structural and kinetic properties of Na,K-ATPase and reverse transcriptase (HIV-1); osmoregulation; protein kinases; biochemical and physiological implication of FXYD2 and other FXYD proteins; alpha-amylases, and heterologous expression of enzymes with industrial profile.
