XII International Symposium on Innovation and Technology 2026

The XII International Symposium on Innovation and Technology (SIINTEC 2026) will take place from October 13th to 16th, 2026, at SENAI CIMATEC, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, one of Latin America’s leading centers for industrial research, education, and technological innovation.

Under the central theme “Currents of the Future: Energy, Climate, and Global Sustainability”, SIINTEC 2026 will bring together researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and students from around the world to discuss innovative solutions to some of the most pressing global challenges, including energy transition, climate change mitigation, sustainable industry, and digital transformation.

Since its creation in 2015, SIINTEC has become one of Brazil’s most relevant forums for science, technology, and innovation, promoting strong collaboration between academia, industry, and government. Each edition gathers hundreds of researchers and professionals and has experienced continuous growth in international participation and scientific contributions.

Technical Sessions and Paper Submission

SIINTEC 2026 will feature technical sessions with full paper submissions, offering researchers the opportunity to present their latest scientific and technological advances. Accepted papers will be presented during the symposium and selected works will be published in the scientific journal:

To submit a paper/work, payment of the registration fee for at least one of the authors is required, according to the applicable category. A submission will only be considered valid after confirmation of at least one paid registration linked to the work.

Complexity is inherent in the development of product and service projects and involves technical, economic, managerial, social, and environmental aspects. The objective of this short course is to demonstrate how complexity can be addressed throughout the product/service development process, particularly in project management.

Place: CIMATEC 2

The short course **“Biofuel Production and Biomass Valorization Based on BIOFEMME’s Scientific Experiences”** invites participants to explore, in a dynamic and practical way, how different types of biomass and waste can be transformed into energy and value-added products. Drawing on the scientific experiences developed ?????? BIOFEMME (*Biofuels for a Sustainable Future: Inspiring Girls and Women in Science*), the course will present concepts, strategies, and practices related to the sustainable use of biomass, biofuel production, and waste valorization within the principles of the circular bioeconomy. The course will also share research and experimentation experiences, familiarizing participants with the different stages of scientific practice and demonstrating how sustainable solutions can emerge from resources available in our daily lives and in our region. It is an opportunity to learn, exchange experiences, and discover, in practice, the possibilities offered by biotechnology and renewable energy.

The transition from an abstract concept to an executable project is one of the most complex stages of immersive design. This short course presents theoretical and methodological approaches for organizing raw ideas on paper, establishing the necessary structure before beginning the prototyping phase. A practical guide to optimizing your development workflow.

09h00 - Arthur João Reis Lima Rodovalho e Izamir Resende Junior Borges Miguel SHORT COURSE 4: Additive Manufacturing of Biomaterials: From Bioengineering to Food Production Course
Place: CIMATEC 2

How is 3D printing transforming fields as diverse as regenerative medicine and food production by enabling the development of materials and structures with carefully engineered properties?

Additive manufacturing, initially popularized for rapid prototyping, has evolved to play a strategic role in fields such as healthcare and food production. In regenerative medicine, additive manufacturing enables the development of customized biomaterials and structures for applications in tissue and organ bioengineering. Similarly, in the food industry, this technology is used to produce foods with adjustable nutritional, sensory, and textural characteristics to meet specific consumer demands. In this context, this short course will present the fundamentals of additive manufacturing of biomaterials, covering its main technologies, materials, and applications. The advances and challenges in this field will be discussed, highlighting its potential to drive innovation in these two sectors.

Participants will learn about the principles of additive manufacturing and biofabrication, as well as the types of materials used in 3D printing structures with adjustable architecture, composition, texture, and properties for different applications. The main technologies used in the fabrication of biomaterials and food products will be explored, including material extrusion, photopolymerization, and Direct Ink Writing (DIW), with a discussion of their operating mechanisms, advantages, limitations, and applications.

The short course will also provide a general introduction to digital modeling and file preparation for printing, highlighting the main software tools used and the influence of processing parameters on the geometry, structural organization, and final performance of the manufactured materials. Finally, selected techniques for morphological, physicochemical, mechanical, and functional characterization will be presented, emphasizing the relationship between composition, processing, architecture, and properties, as well as the importance of understanding the properties of the developed biomaterial in relation to its intended applications.

09h00 - Cristiane Gomes Almeida SHORT COURSE 5: Green Chemistry: The Science Behind the Currents of the Future Course
Place: CIMATEC 2

The short course addresses Green Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry as tools for tackling contemporary challenges related to energy, climate, water, and sustainability. Through practical examples and industry-focused applications, it will discuss strategies for waste reduction, effluent treatment and reuse, resource recovery, energy efficiency, and the development of more sustainable processes. The course will also cover emerging topics such as the circular economy and environmental technologies, encouraging participants to understand how Chemistry can contribute to innovative and sustainable solutions to the challenges of the future.

09h00 - Jeancarlo Pereira dos Anjos SHORT COURSE 8: Green Chemistry in the Preparation of Complex Samples Course
Place: CIMATEC 2

New challenges are emerging in the analysis of complex samples and in ensuring the sustainability of analytical methods. Accordingly, this short course will address the application of the Principles of Green Analytical Chemistry to the preparation of complex samples for chemical analysis. Current sample preparation techniques will be discussed, along with the main strategies used to make analytical methods environmentally sustainable. Emphasis will be placed on miniaturized sample preparation techniques and the use of green solvents. Several metric tools for assessing the sustainability of analytical methods will also be presented.

09h00 - Luiz Mario Nelson de Gois SHORT COURSE 6: Liquid–Liquid Extraction in Chemical Engineering Course
Place: CIMATEC 2

Liquid–liquid extraction is increasingly being used as an alternative for separating homogeneous mixtures. The use of extractors requires knowledge of important topics related to both the design and operation of this equipment. This short course will cover topics ranging from the fundamental concepts of liquid–liquid extraction to methodologies for studying the performance of extraction columns in general. Some of the extractor types most commonly used in the chemical industry will also be presented and analyzed individually.

09h00 - Thomas Buck SHORT COURSE 7: Discovering Opportunities to Develop New Businesses Course
Place: CIMATEC 2

The first stage of an entrepreneurial journey is opportunity discovery. In other words, how do you find a relevant problem to solve? Throughout this short course, we will present several tools that help entrepreneurs gain a deeper understanding of a particular problem, thereby reducing business risk.

09h00 - Rodrigo de Oliveira Rodrigues SHORT COURSE 9: Conception, Design, Integration, and Operation of Drones: Drone Missions in Industry and Innovation Opportunities Enabled by These Technologies Course
Place: CIMATEC 2

The objective of this short course is to apply the CDIO concept—Conception, Design, Integration, and Operation—to drones and explain each stage in detail. The course will explore key concepts in drone development, typical missions, and potential industrial applications of drones, with a focus on technological fields and related research. There is also the possibility of using the SENAI CIMATEC wind tunnel to create a more immersive and educational experience by testing a wing from a drone developed by CC Drones and using the simulator.

09h00 - Guilherme Pessoa Nogueira SHORT COURSE 10: From Life Cycle Assessment to Decarbonization: Strategies and Applications Course
Place: CIMATEC 2

The transition to a low-carbon economy requires tools capable not only of quantifying environmental impacts but also of guiding effective decarbonization strategies. This short course will present the fundamentals of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and its application to quantifying greenhouse gas emissions throughout value chains, connecting these results to the development of emissions-reduction strategies and the carbon market. The course will discuss concepts such as the definition of scope and system boundaries, life cycle inventories, carbon footprints, direct and indirect emissions, hotspot identification, and the comparison of technological alternatives. Building on this foundation, the course will address decarbonization strategies, emissions offsetting, and the role of regulated and voluntary carbon markets, including concepts related to the generation, certification, and use of carbon credits. The short course will take an applied approach, demonstrating how LCA, emissions inventories, and market mechanisms can be used in an integrated manner to support business decisions, technology assessment, and the development of sustainability and low-carbon strategies.

09h00 - Barbara Avancini Teixeira SHORT COURSE 11: DOE in Practice: Experimental Design and Process Optimization Course
Place: CIMATEC 2

The short course presents the fundamentals of Design of Experiments (DOE) as a tool for process development and optimization. It covers the main concepts of experimental design, the selection of factors and response variables, experimental designs, statistical analysis of results, and model interpretation. In addition, optimization strategies using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) will be discussed, with practical examples focused on research, product development, and industry. By the end of the course, participants will be able to plan experiments efficiently, reduce the number of trials, and make decisions based on statistical evidence.
