Our History:
The first edition of the Brazil-France Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry, with the theme "Drugs for Infectious Diseases and Cancer," took place in Recife from December 2-4, 2019, supported by the Consulate General of France for the Northeast. This remarkable event reinforced the already established scientific collaboration ties, notably the CAPES/COFECUB agreement, while fostering the emergence of new scientific alliances between France and the Northeast region of Brazil. With the distinguished presence of 200 participants, the Symposium hosted a variety of enriching activities, such as minicourses, roundtables, plenary sessions, and notable oral presentations of the most outstanding works. The organization was led by the Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at UFPE, supported by the Graduate Program in Chemistry at the same institution and the Northeast Biotechnology Network (Renorbio). Among the foreign speakers were representatives from France and Mexico, while the national speakers included members from UFPE, UFC, URCA, UEPB, FIOCRUZ-PE, UFAL, and UPE.
The second edition of this prestigious event, held in the beautiful city of João Pessoa-PB from October 26-28, 2023, with the theme "Recent Approaches in the Design and Discovery of Drugs for Neglected and Infectious Diseases," further consolidated the bonds between Brazilian and French researchers. This memorable event was promoted with the support of four Graduate Programs from the State of Paraíba: Pharmaceutical Sciences (PPGCF/UEPB) and Chemistry (PPGQ/UEPB); Bioactive Natural and Synthetic Products (PPGPNSB/UFPB) and Chemistry (PPGQ/UFPB). Featuring the participation of distinguished researchers from the University of Nantes, UFPE, UFPB, UFRN, UFAL, URCA, and USP, it attracted an audience of just over 300 registrants, including undergraduate students, graduate students, professors, and professionals in the field. In total, 22 activities were conducted, including 11 lectures and 3 poster sessions, where 80 works were presented.

3rd Brazil-France Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (Maceió, 2024):
The 3rd edition of the Brazil-France Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry will be a fully in-person event, conceived as a way to carry out an integrative activity associating Brazilian and French researchers active in the broad field of Medicinal Chemistry. This field encompasses research in several areas of knowledge, particularly Medical, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Biological, Biotechnology, and Computational Sciences, among others.
One of the significant motivations for holding this event in 2024 arose from the CAPES/COFECUB project between Brazilian universities (UFPE, UFPB, UEPB, UFDPAr, and UFAL) and the Université de Nantes in France. This project focuses on the development of new molecules with anti-leishmania potential. Additionally, the approval by FAPESQ of PRONEX – Center of Excellence in the Design of Molecules of Pharmacological Interest for Neglected Diseases – further motivated the organization of this symposium.
The organization of the third edition of the Brazil-France Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry, which it will be focused on Advances in Drug Discovery and Development, is not only a natural continuation of the success and positive impact of the previous editions, but also represents an imperative opportunity in light of the current landscape of Medicinal Chemistry research. Given the global health challenges, the search for new treatments for infectious diseases, cancer, and other neglected tropical diseases has never been more urgent. The previous two editions of the symposium have served as crucial platforms to promote scientific collaboration between Brazil and France, as well as among various academic and research institutions from these two countries.
By bringing this renowned event to the city of Maceió, we aim not only to continue and deepen these scientific collaborations but also to broaden the geographical horizons and diversity of perspectives that contribute to the advancement of science. The strategic choice of Maceió as the venue for this third edition was not made by chance. Besides being a city known for its natural beauty and hospitality, Maceió represents a burgeoning academic and scientific center, with prominent research institutions and universities increasingly involved in collaborative and innovative projects. With this, we hope to attract a wide range of researchers from both Brazil and abroad.
The exchange of knowledge, experiences, and ideas that will take place during the symposium will not only propel science itself but also pave the way for more effective and accessible therapeutic solutions, with the potential to positively impact the health and quality of life of millions of people worldwide. Therefore, the third edition of this event is not just a scientific conference; it is an opportunity to bring together brilliant and passionate minds in an environment conducive to collaboration and innovation.
